“If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” __ Albert Einstein
The humble bumblebee is the inspiration behind our latest jewellery collection, the Burrells ‘Bees’. Paying homage to the hardworking bee this beautiful collection has been created and crafted with a real focus on the vital role that the bumblebee plays in harmoniously taking care of our fragile earth. As Einstein once pointed out, without their hard work and determination to pollinate, our world would fail to exist.
“The bee collects honey from flowers in such a way as to do the least damage or destruction to them, and he leaves them whole, undamaged and fresh, just as he found them.” __ Saint Francis de Sales

And, so as to do our part to protect and take considered care, we decided it was important that each piece in the Burrells Bees collection was crafted from recycled metals. All of the metal used is 100% recycled and refined to its pure form; featuring the exact same chemical properties as ‘fresh metal’ with no newly mined mineral. The scrap metal comes from many different sources from scrap jewellery metal to industrial, electronic and even automotive scrap - making the very most of recycled materials. This process is highly detailed and the scrap purchasing processing is verified to ensure that these materials are not from conflict areas or places where the metal is newly mined.

Designed and created by the extremely talented Sally Fry, she noticed that jewellery that features bees is usually focused around the actual bees themselves. Speaking about the collection Sally said “Then I researched the most popular bee-related jewellery, and found a lot revolves around honeycomb - Chaumet (hexagons).
“I found minimal designs around hives and pollen so started developing ideas around that. They went a little off track (as designing often does) and so I stripped back to basics.”
“Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that, so it goes on flying anyway.” __ Mary Kay Ash
