Celebrity engagement rings are some of the most dazzling and iconic pieces of jewellery ever made.
Not only are these rings fantastic to look at, but they serve as great points of reference when choosing an engagement ring for yourself or your partner.
Here at Burrells jewellers, we can’t help but admire the incredible artistry that goes into engagement ring creation. Celebrities often have some of the most elegant and extravagant rings that we have seen in our 40+ years of operation.
So, with the recent engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we decided to take a look back at five great engagement rings and their owners. From Grace Kelly to Beyoncé, these engagement rings are just as expensive as they are beautiful.
Ring 1: Meghan and Prince Harry
Upon the long-awaited announcement of their engagement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out at Kensington Palace Gardens looking every bit in love.
However, our focus, like many others, was drawn towards the glittering stone on her hand.
Markle’s engagement ring is an exquisite three-diamond piece, set on a gold band. Cleave and Company, court jewellers based in Westminster, made Markle’s ring. The company announced that they would not be producing any replicas.
Two of the diamonds featured in this ring originate from Princess Diana’s collection. Harry had these two diamonds reset with a third cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, a country that the couple visited together.
Resetting stones from a personal collection is a wonderful way to achieve a ring with sentimental value without compromising individual taste. Markle's ring is both understated and effortlessly charming. It is estimated to be worth around £122,500.
Ring 2: Kate Middleton and Prince William
When we were first introduced to Kate Middleton back in 2003, we knew immediately that she and William made an adorable couple.
After meeting at the University of St Andrews in Scotland (2001), the pair continued to have a long and loving relationship that resulted in a wedding and the births of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The couple is expecting their third child in April 2018.
Upon their engagement, William presented Kate with a stunning and intense blue sapphire ring, which consists of a 12 carat oval sapphire and fourteen solitaire diamonds. These precious stones sit on top of a classic 18K white gold band.
This engagement ring is aristocratic, with a hint of vintage sophistication. Previously, this ring belonged to William’s mother, Princess Diana. The family tie makes this piece a handsome reminder of the prominent women in the Prince’s life.
The Duchess of Cambridge's ring is valued at an impressive £300,000.

Ring 3: Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco
Grace Kelly’s engagement to Prince Rainier III is the epitome of a magical fairy-tale.
After appearing in many famous films, such as Hitchcock’s Rear Window, Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955. After a whirlwind year of romance, Kelly and Rainier got engaged, later marrying in April 1956.
Many dubbed the Australia-based wedding as the ‘wedding of the century’. Kelly looked radiant in her gown, but something else sparkled too: her incredible engagement ring.
The ring gifted to Kelly was an exquisite platinum Cartier ring, with a 10.47 carat emerald cut diamond situated between two diamond baguettes.
Naturally, the princess paired the ring with a platinum, diamond tiara, diamond earrings and diamond necklace on her wedding day. These incredible pieces of jewellery show not only elegance and refinement but pure quality.
Kelly’s ring is now estimated to be worth over £3 million.
Ring 4: Beyoncé Knowles & Jay Z
Now for some pop royalty: Queen B herself.
Beyoncé and Jay Z have had a well-publicised relationship despite their attempts to keep their love life private. The music legends first met around 1997 and began dating in 2001.
After a rumoured engagement, the pair got married in secret in April 2008. It was around this time that the world got to see Beyoncé’s engagement ring for the first time.
Made by American jeweller to the stars, Lorraine Schwartz, the platinum ring features an 18-carat emerald cut diamond, set on a split band. The band also houses several more diamonds, for optimum shine.
With an estimated net worth of £3.7 million, Beyoncé’s ring is a glamorous and contemporary piece of jewellery which is just as bold and beautiful as the lady herself.

Ring 5: Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
The Queen of reality TV, Kim Kardashian, certainly knows how to turn heads.
Kim and Kanye are two of the most well-known personalities in modern popular culture, and their relationship has been about as public as it could be.
After being friends for several years, Kim and Kanye began dating in 2012. Kanye proposed to Kim in 2013, after the birth of their first child, North West. Kim gave birth to their second child, Saint West in 2015, and the couple is expecting their third child by surrogate in January 2018.
Kim’s original engagement ring was spectacular and extravagant. The ring featured a D grade, 15 carat, cushion cut diamond on a thin diamond-covered platinum band.
Like Beyoncé, Kim’s ring was made by US jeweller Lorraine Schwartz and looks visually similar.
Kanye later upgraded Kim’s engagement ring, gifting her with a new, personalised 20 carat emerald cut diamond ring. West placed this ring on Kim’s pillow while she was sleeping to surprise her.
However, Kim made the headlines in 2016, when she was held hostage in a Paris robbery. During this ordeal, thieves stole Kim’s 20 carat engagement ring.
The stolen ring had an estimated worth of £3.5 million.
Kim’s current replacement engagement ring is much more subtle than previous rings. Her eternity ring is comprised of a narrow diamond-encrusted band, making it an ultra-sleek piece of jewellery, perfect for ring stacking.

Celebrities are often trendsetters of jewellery fashion, and engagement rings are no exception. While popular stars and royalty appear to favour larger diamonds in their engagement rings, there is still a certain amount of variation in personal taste.
